Hello, dear readers,
I'm excited to finally share my June zine with you! If you’re new here, I’ve been doing a monthly zine mailing since November; you can see the archive and order copies on my website. This new zine is especially dear to me because it's a new edition of an old zine (a block print, circa 2015) I made about my mom, Lisa, AND it's also a fundraiser to benefit her and my family. As some of you know, my mom has been battling cancer for over a year now and my amazing dad (and family) has been caring for her. They had a fundraiser going to help financially recover from the first year of her illness but the goal was just raised in light of her recurrence and continuation of her treatment. I won't detail that experience here, but you can read more about the journey on their GoFundMe page.
My mom taught me how to knit, sew, crochet, and look closely at the ground and find joy and wonder wherever I go. If you've spent any time in her company you've probably learned something new about the natural world. This zine, titled 'Beechnuts', is a small ode to her and her generous spirit. The zine is an edition of 100, printed with a risograph by Kristina Buckley of Two Fern. This zine mailing is going to work a little differently than others: if you want a copy of the zine, please donate $15 or more to the GoFundMe and send me a screenshot of your receipt along with your mailing address to magnestextiles@gmail.com. If you don't have the financial means, consider sharing the link on your socials freely! (I have an instagram post up that is very shareable) Please help me get the word out about this - it means the world to me and my family!
Now, for a few July joys :)
The first two swims of the year (yes, it usually takes me until July to swim - I'm a real late summer/fall swimmer). The first dip was at my home lake, Sebago, then at the beloved tidal river. There is nothing like cooling off in that murky, brackish water at the end of a long hot day!
Tabling at the farmer's market and smelling the basil from a nearby stand wafting over to me :) Thank you to everyone who came by! I plan on being there on Saturdays and maybe even a few Wednesdays if the weekend ever gets rained out.
Trying out for roller derby - the joy of being a novice!

Thank you for reading!
